<<< ATTENTION AUTOCAD USERS! >>>
How many times have you wished to incorporate the current ANSI symbols into
your documentation only to find yourself typing out in longhand or in some
cryptic fashion as descriptive as possible those dimensional details? How
many of you have created those symbolic blocks only to be frustrated because
of the time wasted continuously adjusting those descriptive dimensions to get
them to fit?
Now you can add those ANSI symbols (previously unavailable from other
software companies) as easily as you can type right from the prompt!
Imagine the graphic equivalent of a counterbore/spotface, or that of a
conical taper or countersink?
I'm Alan D. Hord, Consultant & Owner of "HORDS of FUN (tm)". I enjoy solving
many of those annoying problems that plague designers, drafters, & engineers!
In these files you'll find the recompiled code ROMAN SIMPLEX in two different
forms. RMNS100.SHX & RMNS085.SHX are in fact Roman Simplex at 1.00 width & at
0.85 width respectively. Both contain all of the normal characters of Roman
Simplex PLUS all of the following:
COUNTERBORE/SPOTFACE SUPERSCRIPT
COUNTERSINK SUBSCRIPT
DEPTH/DEEP SLOPE
SQUARE CONICAL TAPER
in addition to:
OHM as in RESISTANCE
MICRO... as in MICROFARAD
** NOTE: THIS IS NOT ANOTHER SHAPE FILE!
This IS an enhanced version of the Roman Simplex we all know & use.
I've used the other Shape Files/Fonts such as "GEODIM" or "COMPUGRAPHX" &
I find nothing wrong with them; they're very good programs at what they do.
However, my needs are simple & if yours are too then this is for you!
A question was asked to me "Why have two different versions of the same font?"
The answer is that except for `Monotext' all of AutoCAD's fonts are
proportionally shaped. In addition, ANSI specifies that the graphic symbols
be a certain height & width. I however prefer to use 0.85 width font because
I can fit more information into the same space; the font still looks nice & is
not too thin to be noticeable. On the other hand, some of you might prefer
1.00 or even 1.25 width font. If I used the 1.00 width font at 0.85 width,
the graphic symbols come out looking noticeable squashed. So I made both to
satisfy both preferences!
WHAT'S IN THIS ARCHIVE
You should have the following files:
README.DOC
RMNS085.DWG (VER 2.6)
RMNS100.DWG (VER 2.6)
RMNS085.SHX
RMNS100.SHX
Copy them to into your AutoCAD directory or a temporary directory.
PROCEDURE:
1. Rename your ROMANS.SHX to OLD-RMNS.SHX (or whatever strikes you fancy).
2. Choose your weapon: RMNS100.SHX or RMNS085.SHX.
3. Rename the font to ROMANS.SHX & place it where you normally keep your
compiled fonts (the ACAD or AUTOCAD directory).
4. Start AutoCAD as you normally would! Be sure you're using the correct
text width.
INVOKING THE SYMBOLS
To see how you enter the symbols, call up the file to edit "RMNS100.DWG" or
"RMNS085.DWG". You can plot or print this file out & paste it some place
obvious until you remember the codes. In no time you'll be symbolizing your
way to the envy of the class!
WHAT'S THE CATCH?
I am firmly committed to the philosophy of "SHARE-WARE": What's mine is mine,
except I'm loaning it to you! If you like what you see, I would greatly
appreciate a small donation of $10 to cover my time & expenses, in addition
towards the development of a more sophisticated (more FUN if you will) font &
font types, of which you will receive a copy of the next revision. If you're
interested in receiving the source code for integration into other fonts,
please send $25. Please use the order form below.
Many thanx friends!
ADH
P.S. Feel free to copy these files & share them with your friends, but I
request that you do not alter their form or resell them.
